Oral Hygiene 101 – Dental Implants Overview

Do you know that every year, millions of Americans suffer from dental problems? Due to difficulty in the access of dental care in the US and high cost of oral treatment, many Americans are still afflicted with many dental problems. Many individuals also forego treatments such as dentures and bridges because of difficulty in eating, slurring with ill-fitted dentures and other similar problems. The advent of dental implants however changes everything.

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide several benefits to the patient with oral problems. One is that it makes it easier for the patient to eat. Unlike with dentures where one needs to remove the appliance often or ill-fitting dentures that are prone to slipping, dental implants are permanently set in the patient’s jawbone and in time would fuse to the patient’s bone. This is ideal as it acts as the tooth’s replacement root. Since it holds on its own, it does not affect the adjacent teeth unlike other dental remedies.

Implants not only improve a person’s aesthetic appearance, they also make it easier for the patient to speak confidently without worrying about sliding dentures. The implants also last for several years and with proper care can last a lifetime.

How Much Does It Cost?

There are several types of procedures and depending on the type of procedure, the cost can go higher or lower. Endosteal and subperiosteal are the two types of dental implants; however, subperiosteal is no longer use because endosteal is much more effective and can stand longer. A conservative estimate of the cost of the procedure can be from $5,000 to $6000 depending on the materials used and the length of the procedure. The first procedure would be the surgical part where a titanium fixture is placed in the patient’s jaw bone area. The second procedure on the other hand would involve the placement of a porcelain tooth over the implant.

Where to Find a Dental Implant Specialist

There are dental specialists in the US that do offer dental implants although it can be very expensive especially as most medical insurance do not cover the procedure. With that said, there are other places that you might want to consider if you are thinking of lowering the cost of the procedure. There are many dental clinics outside of the US such as in Cancun, Mexico where you can get cheaper implant done without sacrificing quality as they also use the same brands but at a much affordable cost.
